Oh my. Planning our only daughter’s first birthday got a lot bigger than I intended! But…she is only 1 ONCE. So I went with it 🙂 A sweet past client asked if I had seen the “Alice in ONEderland” themed parties. It was ALL OVER from there! hahaha. I began looking for decorations and decided I would draw some of the wall art instead. I started with the cheshire cat, then of course had to do Alice, the white rabbit, mad hatter and my favorite movie quote, “We’re all mad here“. I was on a mission to transform our home in Lake Wylie into a wonderland 😉
I wanted to have soft colors for the decor and I pulled inspiration from an old copy of Alice in Wonderland that I’ve had for yeeeears. I had a collection of vintage tea linens that I used, along with lots of fabrics and wraps from my studio. For the food (and since it was a “tea party”) I wanted to do some easy finger foods and treats. Well I went a little crazy and baked some yummy apple roses…they were pretty and delicious but I probably won’t ever do those again. So.much.work. And I don’t cook which made things even more interesting! Thankfully I had some help from my friend Amy making the cheshire cat tails and peanut butter bites. The rest was pretty easy: muffins, croissants, red velvet cookies, “mushroom” marshmellow apples, fruit, hershey kisses and gummi roses.
The centerpiece of course was her cake, which I had made specifically to match the one from the tea party in the movie. It came out PERFECT. I got it from Jenn’s Sugarlicious Bakery and they were even able to create the same candle out of fondant! When I went to pick it up it was waaaaay bigger than I had imagined though. I needed it to feed 30 and I swear this cake could have fed 80. HUGE. As you can see from the photos below, ha!
One (unexpected) fantastic thing about planning for her birthday was that there was Valentine’s Day stuff evvvverywhere. The hearts and pink stuff was easy to find 🙂 A lot of the vintage Alice decor came from Amazon. She wore the same dress I had custom made for her Halloween costume last year. Then she changed into light purple tutu dress after devouring her cupcake. Oh yeah, Alice showed that cupcake who was BOSS. I’m hoping to do another cupcake smash with her soon but these photos are hilariously awesome. Once she figured out the icing was sweet she dove in face first 😉
Special thanks to Amy for taking a TON of these photos for me at the party! <3
Here are some of my favorites, enjoy!
