Today is my birthday. As I get older there are a few trends that seem to continue: 1) time is not on my side :-/ 2) neither is my body! and 3) I really don’t need much. An appropriate birthday gift in my mid-thirties might be a small home appliance, or…sleep. 🙂 Since I have all the appliances we can handle and sleep is kinda like wishing for a shooting star I thought I would ask for something I really wanted: photos of me and my girl. <3
Actually. Maybe I do need them! I have tried to do my best to capture Alice’s first year and I can’t believe we are almost halfway there. I did seasons (summer, fall, winter and spring) for my 1st-4th trimesters with her and I knew I wanted to do another sunset shoot in the lake around her 6 month milestone, just like we did last fall for my first maternity photos. I wanted Alice to be bare bum with a pretty flower crown I got for her (which she also ate 3 flowers off of in this shoot…oops) but I was trying to decide what I should wear for them. I’m still not back to pre-baby ‘me’ so I thought of doing a wrap somehow. I couldn’t figure out the best way to tie it and hold her so I said screw it and went with the same thing I wore in the maternity shoot last fall. Like I mentioned, my body is not on my side anymore (between my autoimmune issues and good ol’ aging). But, the one thing I’m pretty proud of about my body is still being able to grow this gorgeous child of ours. She is happy and sweet and beautiful and PERFECT. And that is pretty amazing. So I decided to celebrate it and hope that when I look back at these photos in 30 years I’ll be glad I did.
My incredible husband took these photos for me. They are exactly what I wanted. And needed. Thank you to him for this priceless gift on my birthday. 🙂
